Nisāb is the minimum wealth at which zakat becomes due — 87.48g of gold or 612.36g of silver, at today's price. The silver measure is lower, so it captures more people; scholars differ on which to use. Enter the figure your own scholar uses.

This is arithmetic, not a ruling. The 2.5% rate and the broad categories are agreed. What is not agreed is the treatment of particular assets — pensions you cannot access, property held for income rather than resale, and shares held long-term are all treated differently by different scholars. Take your working to your own scholar rather than treating a total on a screen as an answer.
Zakat on Tawakkul units, specifically
The honest position is that scholars differ, and any site that gives you a single confident answer is flattening a real disagreement.
The two common views. One treats units in an income-producing property fund like a rental property: the buildings themselves are not zakatable because they are held to produce income rather than for resale, so zakat falls on the income received and retained. The other treats a fund unit as a tradeable financial asset and applies zakat to its full value.
The difference is not small. On $50,000 of units yielding $2,500, the first view produces zakat on the retained income and the second on the whole $50,000.
What we will do rather than decide for you: report the figures either view needs — your unit value at year end, and distributions paid during the year — so that whichever position your scholar takes, you have the number to give them.
Which nisāb should I use, gold or silver?
Scholars differ. The silver measure is lower, so it brings more people into the obligation, and many contemporary scholars prefer it for that reason. Others hold that gold better reflects the original standard of value. Use the one your scholar uses — the calculator takes whichever figure you enter.
Do I pay zakat on a house I live in?
No. A home you live in, the car you drive and your personal effects are not zakatable. Property held to produce income is treated differently again, and that is where the disagreement above arises.
Does a mortgage reduce my zakat?
Most contemporary scholars say you deduct only the payments due within the current year, not the whole outstanding balance — otherwise a large mortgage would eliminate the obligation entirely for most people.
Is this calculator saving my figures?
No. It runs entirely in your browser, sends nothing, and stores nothing. Close the page and the numbers are gone.
